MTV Shuga Down South doesn't do easy - the kind of show built to inform, provoke, and actually shift how young people think about sexual and mental health. My job was building the bridge between that world and the audience scrolling past it on their phones. I cut the vertical episodic promos - the format built for a viewer who's going to decide in under three seconds whether this story is worth their next fifteen. Alongside those, I edited short docu-style videos where the actors step out of character to talk about who they're playing and why the story matters. Two very different jobs, one goal: get people to care before the show's even started and long after the show has aired. The promos moved fast and hit hard: hook first, everything else second. The docu-style pieces did the opposite, slowing down enough to let the actors' honesty do the work instead of a trailer's usual bag of tricks. Definitely one of my favourite projects.
